The Friends of the Northborough Senior Center are part of the trio – along with Senior Center staff and the Council on Aging – that’s dedicated to serving the senior residents of Northborough. The role of the Senior Center and the COA (whose members are an advisory body appointed by the Northborough Board of Selectmen) is “to maintain or increase the quality of life for the mature citizens of our community.”

Many of the classes and programs at the Senior Center are self-supported by participants’ fees and/or subsidized by grants. But since the COA as a town committee cannot raise money for other activities that enhance Senior Center operations, the Friends help fill that gap. They accomplish it by enlisting the financial support of townspeople and other individuals, as well as local businesses and organizations.

In addition to its financial-support role, the Board of Directors has developed a network of enthusiastic volunteers who take part in fundraising initiatives. The Friends’ board meetings take place at the Center monthly (except December) at 1 p.m. on the fourth Monday, and are open to all.
