Sean O’Shea for Regional School Committee

Sean O’Shea for Regional School Committee
Following is the statement that was submitted by the candidate.

On Tuesday, June 30th Northborough will be holding its annual town-wide elections. I am asking for your support to continue to serve as an Algonquin Regional School Committee Representative for the Town of Northborough. I was elected a year ago to fill an open vacancy and I am seeking to serve a full term.

As a 20 year resident of Northborough, I am committed to supporting the students, families, educators, and residents of the town in continuing the excellence the High School is nationally known for. I am looking to continue to serve and give back to the town as it has served my children and family well over the years.  I have one son who graduated from Algonquin Regional High School and is now a successful adult in an excellent job because of the foundational education provided by Northborough and Algonquin.  I currently have a junior at the High School.  He too is receiving a high-quality education. Both students have greatly benefited not just from the excellence in academics but also the extra-curricular activities.

I feel I have the qualifications needed to represent the students, families and tax payer of Northborough on the School Committee. I have over 28 years’ experience in public education. I have been a classroom teacher, special education Team Chair and Principal during my career. I fully understand the budget process, human resources, creation of district policies and the School Committee’s role in the educational process.   I currently work in a regional school district.  I am cognizant of how a regional district functions differently from a town in terms of budgeting and policies.

I am currently serving as a member of the Regional School Committee and would like to continue to be the community’s voice on the Regional School Committee. Over the past year, I have been advocating for a strong school culture, reviewing the technology integration plan and purchases, and served on the High School principal search committee as well as the Start Time committee. The future holds many uncertainties. My experience in creating budgets, developing school culture and leadership with a focus on student success can be a benefit to the committee in the coming years.

I would appreciate your support on June 30th to continue serving the community and students as a Regional School Committee member.
